War By Other Means

War By Other Means from John Pilger on Vimeo.

John Pilger travels to many third world countries to investigate the devastating results of loans from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). This film – War By Other Means – shows how many wars today are not carried out at the barrel of a gun, but by the monetary policies of global banking institutions.

Instead of bombs, recent history has revealed that debt is a far more powerful weapon to control and maintain the power of global economic interests and that the structural-adjustment policies of neo-liberal economics are even more deadly than nerve gas and many other so-called weapons of mass destruction.

War By Other Means backs up many of the claims made by John Perkins, author of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man.

The film has won many awards including: the Geneva International TV Award at the North-South Media Encounters event, Geneva, 1993; Gold Medal in the ‘Best Documentary Production category’ of the International Television Movie Festival, Mount Freedom, New Jersey 1993; Gold Award in the ‘Political/International Issues category’ at WorldFest-Houston (Houston International Film & Video Festival), 1993; Silver Hugo Award in the ‘Documentary – Social/Political category’ of the 29th Chicago International Film Festival, 1993.
